At Churchill Downs, rain poured, mud flew and in the end, Justice prevailed at this year’s Kentucky Derby. Things were drier and calmer here in Atlanta, nonetheless, a winner emerged after the Derby Day fundraiser at Livingston Restaurant + Bar in The Georgian Terrace. Derby-watching guests wearing big hats and bright bow ties sipped bourbon-laced juleps and other specialty cocktails, and once all was said and done, the race-day shindig posted a $7,000 donation to the Sotherly Foundation. The Sotherly Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is the outreach arm of Sotherly Hotels, including The Georgian Terrace. The foundation strives to make a difference in the lives of American veterans living in communities around its hotels by working directly with veterans and their families to determine where assistance is most needed. Recipients are chosen by the Sotherly Foundation board of directors in conjunction with organizations like the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. Even if you didn’t make it out of the gate on Derby Day, you can still contribute to the Sotherly Foundation here.
